This is terribly exciting! My very first ever ALBUM COVER design! Rachel Hair’s new album, ‘No More Wings’ is being released this February and I have this exclusive sneaky peek at it! I am delighted with how it has turned out – I am always amazed at how different illustrations look on screen or on printouts to how they actually look on a product. The lines all match up beautifully and after a lot of calculating and tweaking along the way, the album cover works. They even used my handwriting and a tiny illustration on the CD itself, so that was an added bonus. Another win for the analogue girl! More news on the album after it has been officially released.

Daily Drawings are rolling forward again and now the punny tree theme is over, making way for something new. In case you missed any of the silly trees, here they are in order and consequently in all their glory – all fifteen of them. If you don’t know what kinds of trees they are – you could have a guess or refer to my twitpic feed. What followed these jolly fellows was a foray into the theme of Chinese new year, the culmination of which you can see here. But this week I shall be doing something completely different!

Another of my Amelia’s magazine offerings made it online this week! To accompany Amelia Gregory’s interview with musical, sisterly twosome, First Aid Kit. I listened to their tunes whilst scribbling and clicking away and I was transported on an acoustic wave of whimsy. Hopefully they recognise themselves. I sneaked the band name onto the frame they’re holding – I don’t know if you’d noticed…

Bit of a strange one, this. You may remember me doing a few other illustrations for Amelia’s magazine in the past, all for different companies, film releases or musicians. This one is for a debut album by Lymes called Goodbye Bangkok. (More below)

The album relates all manner of goings on that happened to the vocalist during several years in Thailand – not all of them good. In fact, mostly horrific! I based this illustration on a song called Train to Penang, using a Thai train ticket as inspiration. I’ll have to check with a friend if the writing is vaguely legible! I used lyrics from that track for most of the text, adding a piano keyboard barcode, a scanned crease in the ticket and a nice little blood drip I made myself with a big fat marker. It’s a strange illustration, but I was pleased with how it turned out. After listening to the album a few times, I felt I couldn’t have done anything vaguely cheery or too colourful. Anyway, you can see it in situ at Amelia’s site from today. That’s the weird stuff out of the way, time for a bit more silliness next time.

A small selection of the TWO HUNDRED (plus) Daily Drawings that I’ve had the pleasure of creating in 2011. I’ve kicked of 2012 with a new angle. Moving on from the success of past themes such as ‘Zombie Hallowe’en Costume Countdown’ and ‘Winter Pun-derland’, I’m now in the middle of a forest of ‘pun trees’. Alright, so the title is rather weak, but perhaps you have an idea for the next theme? Let me know! To find out whattoday’s drawing is, you’ll have to have a look at Twitpic, Twitter or good old Facebook. Happy clicking!

So I have the go-ahead to share some details from the Rachel Hair Trio’s new album. It’s not due for release until April 2012 (Wow! An exclusive!), but here we have the sneakiest preview of her album cover design that I’ve been working on. I can’t reveal any of the track names as that would be telling, but since the album title was announced yesterday, here are the ‘No More Wings’ cover trio in all their glory. Designing and drawing a CD album cover is something I’ve wanted to do since I can remember knowing what a CD cover was, so this is another first for me. More news on this when it become a reality next year!

So… the big news of the season (amongst everything else) is that I am officially published! I was approached to create the illustrations for a new children’s book – I was so excited at the prospect that I was leaping about after I got the initial phone call. So, it isn’t printed yet, but hold your horses! It is available on the Kindle (that sorcery filled pageless book that has batteries) for a tiny price, so if you’d like a swatch at it, it’s available on Amazon. There will certainly be more news soon once it has been printed in real, genuine paper book format – and in glorious technicolour! I’m thrilled to have been involved in this project and I hope it’ll be the first of many book related forays in the future! Hooray!
This is Mil in an online exclusive! You’re seeing the first glimpse of pages from inside the book here. It’s the first story written by newcomer Grace Hui, introducing Mil the wee shih tzu dog. He lives in Singapore and introduces the mechanics of being a modern dog in a tropical country. It’s just lovely. So if you know any small children who like to be read to, watch this space for the book’s imminent arrival!

It’s here at last! With all the bathroom related problems I’ve been having, this year’s calendar has taken some time to get underway. It certainly has a slight bathroom flavour (as it were) but not too much toilet humour, you’ll be relieved to hear. However, it is definitely back to its original and best loved format. Now in its SIXTH triumphant year, I reckon we can just about call it legendary. The ‘legendary’ analogue girl 2012 calendar contains brand new, original poems with accompanying silly illustrations for just £10. Suitable for all ages, it comes packaged in a jolly envelope for easy gifting. A smashing oddball present for Christmas or a nice treat for yourself. Go on. Have a look at more pictures in my shop. Either order one there or drop me an email (rosie@analoguegirl.co.uk) and I’ll put one in the post! Hard sell over…

It’s all over – my Hallowe’en zombie countdown ends today because the day has finally reached us! I managed to draw a total of twenty over the month of October and you can see all of them here. I started with a simple zombie on Day 1, moving through traditional outfits like witches, ghosts and cats and into the realms of silliness with a pantomime horse, ‘Dedward’ and a frog that had been run over. I asked for suggestions through Facebook and Twitter, so fourteen of the total were requested by other people, the others were Zombies I just had to draw for myself. See them all in more detail on my twitpic feed - they run from #DailyDrawing number 139 all the way to 158.
I’ve had so much fun doing a series of drawings on a theme that I’m rather tempted to try something like this again. I’m a little sorry that Hallowe’en has arrived before I could do ten more! Added to that is the fact that the zombies seemed to get better and more ambitious as time went on. If you can think of anything you’d like to see, or you have a fun idea, please do get in touch. I’m always up for a challenge!

It’s not all zombies, dogs, bunnies and cartoons here at Analogue girl HQ – I have also been doing a series of rather official posters for Shipowners Club in London. Now, it hasn’t been issued yet, but I’m allowed to give you a wee look at bits of it. For now, I’ll let you see the complete tool kit for repairing damage to a ship’s hull! Yep, it’s all screwdrivers and epoxy – serious kit. You might remember the ball of string and other bits in my #DailyDrawings feed from a while back (Numbers 126 and 129). More on this poster as it becomes available…
Anyway, this is where they ended up, along with a couple of images of workmen doing some repairs. More on this as it becomes available!
