Free-ranger

New! My Freerange Zine is now available at the brand new Pushpin Zines site by Marceline Smith. I attended a zine making workshop with her last year and it prompted me to draw it up. It’s nice that it appears on the homepage on the left – probably as one of the most colourful items in the zine shop. You can see the exact listing here in case you were interested in procuring one yourself! I also stock them myself in my own shop, available wherever for 3 of the Queen’s pounds! Enjoy!

Bears and beards

I submitted my themed ‘bears and beards’ drawing for the cover of the newly released ‘Heart and Lungs’ Zine in good time (so I thought). Unfortunately the information I had checked stated ‘midnight’ as the deadline, but it turned out to be midday. I was late by a mere couple of hours because of someone else’s typo. You can’t be lucky in everything. Very kindly, they still included me in their gallery, so have a look. Click on ‘gallery’ and scroll down all the submissions – you’ll find mine somewhere in there!

Way of the Morris

The excitement for today is that I have once again been featured by Amelia Gregory on her blog! This time it’s even more exciting because I’m at the top of the page! This one is an illustration of Morris Dancers to accompany an article on the new documentary feature, ‘Way of the Morris’. I really want to see it – I very much like Morris Dancing. It’s a very merry sort of affair to watch. I like the black crow ones the best, and the stick banging ones. I’m wild, me.

Anyway, if you’d like to see all the images I created for this, the five of them are in the ‘illustration’ section. I just couldn’t choose which ones you’d like to see, but this one is my favourite. The best bit is I didn’t photoshop this guy at all – he’s all pen.

Since I drew this, I’ve done a more recent drawing – in a vaguely similar style – for Amelia which you can see here.

It’s official.

It really is. Now I have a shop. A proper shop. A shop where you can REALLY ACTUALLY buy things I have drawn and made! There is a button – a nice big, prominent one too, just like thisĀ  – that takes you directly from my homepage and straight to the etsy shop. Now you have no excuses for not buying your friends and family lovely gifts for their various celebratory needs! Also, you can always get in touch if you’d like to see anything I haven’t got or done yet. Enjoy having a browse!

All you need is the Beatles

Here you can see a recent commission from a family that needed to submit a page for a wedding book. One of their relatives is marrying very soon and requested that all invitees supply an A4 page for a wedding book to be bound before the marriage. The family chose the lyrics to the Beatles classic, ‘all you need is love’ and I illustrated it as best I could. Apparently they are BIG Beatles fans so I snuck the fab four in at the bottom there, giving them the faintest smiles so they didn’t look so aloof.

The vermillion ribbons swirling down each side entwine elements of the lyrics; singing, doing things that can’t be done, saying things, knowing, seeing, loving. It’s all there in the song. It was a tough call, this one, to decide what to put on it, but hopefully the family are pleased with it, and also the future bride and groom!

SHOP SHOP SHOP!

Big news, boys and girls!

illustration, etc / analogue girl has a SHOP! I’m still stocking it at the moment (which – I have discovered – takes an immeasurably long time) so be prepared to see more items turn up in the days and weeks to come. I’ll launch it properly later, but it is fully functional right now! I have already has my first customer – very proud!

I hope to start selling illustrated badges, cards, postcards, prints, calendars and all sorts of fun. So far, so good. I’m sure everyone knows somebody who might benefit from some analogue flavoured, illustrated silliness! Get in touch – let me know what you think…
