Birthday drawings

Here’s a portion of a drawing I just finished as a birthday gift. It details many of the places and antics the birthday boy and I have got up to in the past few years. It’s his 33rd birthday so although it’s slightly corny, I managed to find about that many items to put into the drawing. The whole thing is drawn out on an A3 sheet – I think the actual drawing is about A4, though I tried to calculate the ‘golden ratio’ for aesthetic purposes. I think I got it right, but well, I’m happy with the outcome anyway!

I am especially pleased as this image hasn’t been photoshopped at all – it is one complete drawing with pretty much no messy mistakes – I am improving little by little. Enjoy! I you’d like to see the complete drawing and some other close ups, try the illustration section.

A musical interlude

Finally finished today; Suzy’s business card designs. Never being one to make a final decision, she settled on two designs out of a possible eight I created. She wanted a card that would clearly illustrate her profession (piano tuition), would differentiate her from the rest of the cards and posters out there (mostly confusing and/or hideous) and would also remain ‘friendly’ looking and approachable.

I hope we managed it – I spent a wee while getting the inks and the vague piano to work together – my other versions look so little like grand pianos it is laughable. Thankfully she seems pleased! Now to get going with a logo for Joy…

500:

A drawing to celebrate my triumphant 500th post on my daily travel / life ‘blog’. The images are all inspired by things I’ve seen and done along the way. #2 Frogwallaby

I have begun a series of ‘daily drawings’ this week. They’re not finished artworks or really for anything as such, they are more like concepts or scribbles or ideas I thought I might share. I want to build up a sort of general library of my ideas and also to show how I work day to day. Hopefully I can keep it up on weekdays. I’ll be posting them up on both the ‘analogue girl illustration’ facebook page and on twitter (piplessjam).

The frogwallaby is the second daily drawing, after yesterday’s ‘pizza ruff’. Both were the results of conversations with friends; I commented that a sketch of a rabbit in our kitchen looked like a frog wallaby, and it came into being.

In addition, this is one small step for me, but a giant leap for analogue girl. I have managed today to add two buttons to the contact part of this site, enabling you to follow me on facebook or twitter – lucky you! I hope to tidy them up, but they do function, so test them out today!
